* MFL – Modern Foreign Languages

Posted on December 9th, 2008 by adunton.

Here at Court Fields Community School, the MFL Faculty endeavours to offer our pupils the opportunity to learn, practise and experience MFLs in various contexts and settings. We focus on French and Spanish but also have resources for beginners in Italian and Japanese.

So many of usvisit Spanish speaking resorts and islands. It's well worth learning a bit of the lingo!!!

The aim of all lessons is to help pupils to become more confident and competent in the taught language, as well as to cultivate an interest in MFLs and the cultures and countries where they are used.

French speaking isn't just about France!!!

The MFL dept uses a mixture of traditional and multimedia resources in order to improve the 4 main language skills (speaking, listening, reading & writing).

To enhance the ‘language experience’, the MFL Faculty also runs several extra curricular activities including:

European Language Day in September

Continental Cafe on Open Days

Culture Vulture (Song, Dance, Art, Traditions) on Enrichment Days

Newquay zoo trip with a French ‘Lemur’ twist for yr7s

Paris trip with all the trimmings for yr8s & 9s

At KS3 ( yrs 7-9), pupils have the opportunity to learn both French and Spanish, although priority is given to French at present, as most pupils have some French knowledge from their primary school.

At KS4 (yrs 10-11),pupils have the choice of GCSE French, Spanish or both.

In the near future we are planning to offer MFLs as a NVQ qualification, which will focus on using the language in authentic business and social situations’.
